When we think of refugees, we often hear of the Biblical call to ‘welcome the stranger’. Since 1979, World Renew and partnering churches have responded to needs of refugees from around the globe and helped resettle over 7,500 refugees to Canada.

When a disaster strikes, we work with partner organizations in order to act quickly and effectively. In the wake of a disaster, the needs of a community extend beyond immediate relief. We act with long term goals, to set up a community to function better than they were and for much longer than we will ever be there.

We all want refugees to settle well in Canada–to learn one of our official languages, find jobs, become integrated into communities. But Canada currently asks refugees to pay back the money that the government spent on their travel to Canada.

World Renew is an official Sponsorship Agreement Holder with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. This enables us to sponsor refugees for resettlement to Canada through Canada’s Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program.

World Renew partners with churches, individuals and refugee organizations to facilitate the process of refugee sponsorship to Canada in collaborative activities of love, mercy, justice and compassion.

Join us in pursuing advocacy for refugee rights. It is a way of putting faith into action that can change lives- those of
refugees and of those who advocate for them.

Our Call

“When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt.”

Leviticus 19:33-34 NIV

Through the Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program, you may be able to help sponsor refugees from abroad who qualify to come to Canada. Your role as a sponsor is to support the refugees during the sponsorship period. This includes help for housing, food, clothing, as well as social and emotional support.

There are several streams through which refugees fleeing persecution, war, and human rights violations can be sponsored to Canada:

  • Goverment Assisted
  • Sponsor-referred
  • Blended Visa Office-referred
  • Joint Assistance Sponsorships
