VolunteerFort McMurray, Alberta - DRS Reconstruction Site

April 2017

Thank you for your patience and prayers as many hours of work and meetings have taken place since the wildfire last year. World Renew Disaster Response Services (DRS) is happy to announce that we are ready for volunteers to begin home reconstruction!

  • Program: Disaster Response Services
  • Location: Alberta, Canada
  • Type: Individual
  • Length of opportunity: 2-4 Weeks
  • Skillset needed: Reconstruction skills are helpful.

This World Renew DRS managed reconstruction site in Fort McMurray is set up a little different that others in that we are partnering very closely with Mennonite Disaster Services (MDS).

MDS is taking the lead in coordinating the work projects and meal preparation for not only their volunteers but for DRS as well.

At a typical DRS reconstruction site, there is a World Renew DRS onsite manager, construction supervisor, cook team, and reconstruction volunteers. The site in Fort McMurray is set up differently in that there are just two roles: reconstruction volunteers and a new, unique management position of Team Facilitator.

Main responsibilities of the Team Facilitator will include working with MDS to coordinate DRS volunteers, ensuring a quality experience for our DRS volunteers, and working with the team on the reconstruction projects.
