World Renew Will Respond to Indonesia Earthquakes

A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck East Lombok, Indonesia on Sunday July 29th, followed by a second 7.0 earthquake one week later on Sunday, August 5th in Northern Lombok. Besides the hundreds of related aftershocks, a third earthquake followed with a magnitude 5.9 August 9th, this time centred Northeast of Mataram City, creating panic and hindering rescue efforts.

Host Communities Receive Assistance as Part of Rohingya Response

While the ongoing Rohingya refugee crisis spurred the need for supplies, the recipients were not refugees themselves. Instead, this particular distribution focused on helping vulnerable families who were already living in the area before the recent flood of refugees arrived.

World Renew Responds to Kenya Flooding

On May 9, this hit particularly close to home for World Renew. With the increased water levels from the heavy rains, a dam burst in Solai, a region of Kenya where World Renew has been working with farmers on conservation agriculture. Prior to these floods, farmers in this community were experiencing the transformative impact of conservation agriculture. Crop yields were increasing many times over.

Bangladesh: the Canary in the Coal Mine

Adaptation to changing weather patterns is critical, particularly for countries like Bangladesh and India, where World Renew walks alongside the poorest of the poor. This video is the first of a series being released about Bangladesh and its precarious position due to the extreme weather hazards that are occurring. Today the Rohingya refugees are also desperately compromised by the pending monsoon rains and cyclone season - two events which are typically intensified by rising temperatures.
