Bitelia Vega lives in Buena Vista, a community located on a mountain in the department of Yoro. Families in Buena Vista practice an agricultural way of life: farmers produce coffee, corn, beans and vegetables which they sell in nearby communities. Alfalit, a World Renew partner in Honduras, has been promoting sustainable agricultural practices and economic growth initiatives among farmers in Buena Vista, with a special emphasis on supporting women in income-generating activities.

James and his wife Sauja and their three daughters are one of thirty-nine households in the village of Orwadai, Uganda. Choosing to live in a rural village was a big decision. “I am a diploma holder in information technology from Kampala International University,” says James. “After my studies I remained in Kampala, the capital city, working with different companies. Life became hard with a young family to take care of. Meeting our basic needs was just a tug of war.”

"When I Disclosed My Status, I Was Free..."

Akello Rose is a widow, living with HIV. She has three children, two boys and one girl. She tells the story of how miserable life was after the loss of her husband. She was left with nothing and reduced to a beggar, begging for food, water, money to go to the hospital, money to feed and dress her children. She had no self-esteem and lacked the confidence to speak up before people in her community. She felt reduced to nothing.
