Scope of Work
Several areas in Florida need help with home repairs and clean-up. Work may include muck-out and gutting while some homes are ready for reconstruction including sheetrock work, painting, replace flooring and trim, roof repairing, electrical, and plumbing.
There is a local construction coordinator who will assign work projects that are appropriate to the size and skill level of your group.
High school age and up. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Skill Level Requirement
It is helpful to have a couple of people with construction experience in your group, but this is not required. The local construction coordinator will provide guidance on work projects.
Accommodations and Meals
Several churches and community centers are opening their doors to house volunteer teams. Accommodations vary but range from air mattresses and/or cots on a gym floor to dorm style with bunk beds. Some may provide meals while others will have a kitchen to prepare your own. Please share your group's preferences with World Renew DRS staff during the early planning stages.
The exact housing location for your group will depend on how many people you have and the availability of the facilities.
Cost ranges from free to a reasonable daily fee that may or may not include your meals. Fees are payable to your local coordinator in Florida. Your group is responsible for all costs associated with your trip. World Renew DRS does not charge for arranging group mission trips.
Tools and Materials
Materials and basic tools are provided and coordinated by the local construction coordinator. Skilled tradesmen are encouraged to bring their own tools if possible. This should be discussed with the local site coordinator during the planning process.
What to Bring
Must bring bedding and/or sleeping bag, towels, and personal toiletries. A general list of what to bring can be found in Preparing to Serve.
