  • Program: International Disaster Response
  • Location: Nepal
  • Type: Adult group
  • Length of opportunity: Less than 2 Weeks
  • Skillset needed: None

The Nepal government has created new openings for assistance and  World Renew is inviting volunteers to come alongside communities in Nepal to offer our strength and encouragement as they continue to live with the effects of the earthquakes.

World Renew is providing funding for owners to rebuild their homes but the Nepal government is requiring homeowners to provide sweat equity. World Renew is coming alongside the most vulnerable who are unable to provide sweat equity such as the elderly, disabled and female headed households. Individuals and teams will help community members in Nepal assisting them to recover from this disaster by providing skilled and unskilled labour. Many communities including the most vulnerable need our assistance as they look to rebuild their homes and it is our hope that each person that joins a work team will begin to make new relationships built on shared experiences... serving together in Nepal.

You will work alongside local World Renew staff and community members as they rebuild homes for some of the most vulnerable whose lives were devastated by the earthquakes. World Renew is currently working on a shelter program in Manakamana, which is in the district of Nuwakot. Our goal is to have 285 earthquake resistant houses completed by the end of July 2017. World Renew has 2 offices in Nepal; one in Kathmandu and a field office in Bidur, Nuwakot District which is a 3 hour drive from Kathmandu. Nuwakot District is the focus of the World Renew response.

Size of Teams:
4-5 team members per home
8-10 team members for every two homes.

Currently recruiting for...  (up to 4 groups per date):

  • May 20 - June 3, 2017
  • June 3 - June 17, 2017

We are currently recruiting work teams for May and June 2017. Work teams are designed to make a difference in the communities where they work and in the lives of those who are serving on a work team. Skilled labourers will have experience in masonry, construction, woodworking or carpentry. Unskilled Labourers will help to transport building materials, clearing, levelling, digging holes, help to mix cement and other tasks as decided by the team leader. World Renew and partner staff will provide on the job training. All food and accommodation will be covered by World Renew. Sleeping accommodations will be simple and sparse and may include sleeping in a church or school.

As a work team you will work through World Renew’s devotional prayer journal. The prayer journal  will introduce you to the ways in which we as a community of believers can respond to God in how we see ourselves, our church, community and the world as we experience Nepal. This resource will prepare you to share through exchange, establishing solidarity, challenging worldviews and giving hope.
