VolunteerTampa, Florida - Disaster Response Mission Trip

This is in response to flooding in 2015 and Hurricane Hermine, September 2016.

There were several counties impacted by Hurricane Hermine; Pasco, Citrus, Hernando, and Levy.  They all experienced major flooding and wind damage.  World Renew DRS is partnering with the LTRG in Paso County, where they are also still recovering from the 2015 flooding, which damaged over 1400 homes.

  • Skillset needed: Some reconstruction experience in your group is helpful

Scope of Work
General reconstruction, remove and replace sheetrock, insulation, trim, roofing/siding, electrical, plumbing, and flooring.

There is a local construction coordinator who will assign work projects that are appropriate to the size and skill level of your group.

Age Requirement
Generally, high school age and up. Youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.   

Skill Level Requirement
It is helpful to have a couple of people with construction experience in your group, but this is not required. The local construction coordinator will provide guidance on work projects.

Accommodations and Meals
Your group will stay at in a hurricane shelter that offers a kitchen with a large walk-in cooler, microwaves, and warming tables (but no cook stove) to prepare your own meals. There are showers for ladies and men, and two large rooms if men and women need to be separated for sleeping. Cots are available.   

Cost is $10/person/night payable to the local coordinating organization. Your group is responsible for all costs associated with your trip. World Renew DRS does not charge for arranging group mission trips.

Tools and Materials
Materials and basic tools are provided and coordinated by the local construction coordinator. Skilled tradesmen are encouraged to bring their own tools if possible. This should be discussed with the local site coordinator during the planning process.

What to Bring
Must bring a sleeping bag, towels, and personal toiletries. A general list of what to bring can be found in Preparing to Serve.
