West Virginia: Home Repair

This is a response to June 2016 flooding which severely affected 12 counties.

Even though the flood was several years ago, vulnerable families and individuals still need help with home repairs.

Over 8,000 homeowners registered with FEMA indicating the need for assistance; their homes had major damage or destroyed. World Renew DRS is partnering with the West Virginia VOAD to identify counties and the most vulnerable homeowners with the greatest need for volunteer assistance.

Accommodations and Meals

Because the damage is across 12 counties, where you stay will depend on which county has the greatest need at the time of your trip, as well as the size and skill set of your group. The housing will most likely be in a church with open floor space for sleeping, or some other community building. There will be restrooms, showers, and a kitchen to prepare your own meals. Some locations may provide all meals for a fee.

Cost

The cost may range from $0 – $150/person per week depending on the location of the project. A location that would cost $150 provides all meals. If there is no cost, a donation to your local coordinator in West Virginia is encouraged.

Your group is responsible for all costs associated with your trip.

Skill Level Requirement

While it is always nice to have highly skilled volunteers to help other members of your team, teams of all skill levels are welcome. A local construction coordinator will provide guidance on work projects.
