World Renew has been working in Guatemala since 1976, supporting communities through programs in the areas of agriculture, community health, livelihood training, and peacebuilding.
Guatemala is the most populous country in Central America and retains a distinct influence from its Indigenous peoples, primarily living in its interior uplands. Since gaining independence from Spain in the 1820s, Guatemala has had a long history of government conflict. A 36-year civil war ended in 1996, and Guatemala has worked to make political strides to end years of violence, corruption, and poverty. With its local partners, World Renew works in Guatemala to implement programs primarily focused on agricultural training, community health, support for youth, and leadership capacity.
“I have been able to realize that the way I was farming was not the best and that is why I was suffering losses … World Renew’s work has given me new strength and hope to improve my living conditions and give my children the opportunity to finish their education.”
