World Renew is partnering with Love INC to collect in-kind donations starting today at Love INC in Hudsonville, Mich. The collection drive will benefit survivors of post-tropical storm Sandy and other 2012 hurricanes.
Those wishing to drop off needed items may do so daily, at Door D-2, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, and from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturdays through November 21, 2012. Love INC is located at 3300 Van Buren, Hudsonville, Mich., 49426. (Phone: 616-662-3300)
Items requested for the joint donation drive include the following:
- Non-perishable food items such as canned soup, canned meats, powdered milk, boxed items, and can openers
- Baby products such as formula and disposable diapers in all sizes
- Feminine hygiene products of all kinds
- Cleaning supplies including bleach, buckets, mops, brooms, trash bags, and rubber gloves
- New blankets in their original packaging
World Renew Disaster Response Services (DRS) will deliver the donated items to Hurricane Sandy survivors on the East Coast in the next few weeks by working with Nazarene Disaster Response in New York.
“Our contacts indicate that water and electrical service is again being restored to locations affected by Sandy and this week’s winter storm,” says Bill Adams, World Renew DRS director. “As soon as the water and power back on, people will be able to wash their clothes, and drinking water will be readily available.”
Adams added that the restoration of power and water means that no clothing, bottled water, or any household items other than those listed above are needed.
In addition, Love INC in Hudsonville will donate the proceeds of sales made at its Hudsonville store to World Renew’s Hurricane Sandy response on Tuesday, November 13, 2012. The donation from Love INC for purchases will be used by World Renew to assist Sandy and other 2012 hurricane survivors with storm clean-up, assessments, demolition, repairs, and rebuilding.
Love INC in Hudsonville works with churches and individuals in southeast Ottawa County, including the Hudsonville, Jenison, and Grandville areas, to address unmet needs in the community.
World Renew DRS, established in 1972, works in the U.S. and Canada in communities struggling to recover from floods, hurricanes, fire, and tornadoes through thousands of volunteers who give one week to several months of their time to help survivors who are elderly, indigent, disabled, without insurance, or otherwise beyond assistance.
Please give today to help Hurricane Sandy survivors.
