World Renew Stands with Gavi: Protecting Children’s Health Worldwide

August 2025 — World Renew joins with other global faith-based organizations in opposing the U.S. government’s decision to defund Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.

“Immunization is the single greatest contributor of any health intervention to ensuring babies not only see their first birthdays but also live healthy lives into adulthood.” (WHO, 2024)

Vaccines are one of the most effective tools to ensure children survive and thrive. Since 2000, Gavi has helped prevent 18.8 million deaths and cut global child mortality by half. Its work strengthens health systems in low-income countries—many of which are places where World Renew partners to improve maternal and child health, food security, and disaster recovery.

Defunding Gavi threatens this progress and puts millions of children at risk. As an organization that has prioritized global maternal, newborn, and child health within our programming for more than 60 years, World Renew has seen firsthand the transformative, life-saving impact of vaccines and community-based health interventions. Through the Child Survival Program Expansion Fund, for instance, and in partnership with local organizations in Bangladesh and India, we have helped increase child immunization coverage from 57.9% to 86.1% in just three years.

World Renew opposes the U.S. government’s decision to halt funding for Gavi and calls on our U.S. constituents to take action.

   How You Can Help 🙏

  • Contact your elected officials: Urge your representatives in Congress to restore U.S. funding for Gavi’s global immunization programs.
  • Mobilize your community: Organize events, host town hall discussions on global health, or hold prayer meetings for children’s health worldwide.
  • Raise awareness: Share stories, statistics, and resources to amplify the urgency of this issue.
  • Write letters to the editor: Highlight the moral, environmental, and humanitarian importance of protecting vulnerable children.
  • Support organizations: Join us in advancing maternal, newborn, and child health programs and supporting initiatives that save lives. Support World Renew programs.
  • Pray: Ask God for grace and mercy to cover families and children whose lives are at risk due to this change.

World Renew’s mission calls us to be advocates for justice and compassion. Supporting vaccines is not just about global health—it is a profound moral responsibility to lead with love and care for the most vulnerable.

We stand with Gavi. We stand for children everywhere. We hope you will stand with us, too.

Sincerely,

Carol Bremer Bennett U.S. Director, World Renew
