World Renew is pleased to announce that on February 10 it became a full member of the Humanitarian Accountability Partnership (HAP). HAP has pioneered accountability in the humanitarian sector since its inception in 2003.  Today, with a global membership whose work spans more than 140 countries, HAP has become a leader in accountability-related certification, training and research in humanitarian work.

“We are very pleased to now be a full member of HAP,” said Wayne de Jong, World Renew Director of Disaster Response and Rehabilitation. “It is a recognition of the well-run, ethical, efficient and effective disaster response activities that we carry out and lets others know that we provide humanitarian assistance with the highest possible degree of accountability to the crisis-affected people and communities we serve.”

HAP defines accountability as “the responsible use of power.”  It encourages member organizations to uphold the rights and dignity of crisis-affected populations across the world.

“As a Christian organization, our ministry is first and foremost carried out according to our Christian calling and values.  This means that we recognize all people as image bearers of God and therefore worthy of our respect.  It also means that we are stewardly with the finances we’ve been given and that we are transparent with our beneficiaries as well as our supporters.  All of our guiding principles and values made compliance with the HAP standards an easy fit,” said de Jong.
