And he and his family are counting the blessings that are heaping up, in part because of Moses’ hard work and participation in agriculture trainings.
Moses and his family are the representative family for World Renew in East Africa. They live in the Amuria District of Uganda.
Through World Renew’s local partner, PAG KIDO, Moses – together with his wife Loyce – have learned about modern farming practices and conservation agriculture techniques. Putting into practice what they have learned, a good harvest of corn and other crops occurred.
Moses’ role in a village savings and loan association is another blessing for his family and for other families in the community. His savings and loan group makes it possible for him and other members to save funds together so that they have money to use for farming and other livelihoods activities. When group members work together in this way, it promotes cooperation and unity in the community. Through Village Savings and Loan Groups, a few cents saved regularly can become a lot!
Moses is a deacon at his Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAG) Church. Currently, the church has a temporary grass-thatched roof and mud-brick walls.
“Our vision is to build a permanent structure,” Moses said. “We, as a family, have decided to donate land to the church because we have been so blessed by God. In turn, we also want to be a blessing to others.”
Talking with Moses reminded me of a quote by author Edmond Mbiaka: “We are all blessed, but the problem is that some of us count their blessings while others count their struggles, challenges, and obstacles.”
Moses and Loyce acknowledge that their lives have not been easy, and they recognize that there are very likely more challenges ahead. In the midst of hard times, however, they are choosing to hold on the signs of hope. They praise God for the way that He is at work in their lives and in the lives of those around them. What a beautiful way to bear witness to the goodness of God.
