Nurturing Talents for Brighter Livelihoods in Tanzania
As weather patterns changed and dry seasons persisted, the Luboyelwas in Tanzania struggled to meet their basic needs. “We did not have enough food for our family, and our farm was not very productive,” Kehula Luboyelwa, 55, says. “The people of my similar age migrated to other places searching for fertile land and green pastures.”
Thanks to support from people like you, Kehula was able to participate in agriculture training facilitated by World Renew’s local partner and he earned a certificate in sustainable agriculture. Putting what he learned into practice, Kehula has experienced positive changes in farm yields, and his family now enjoys food security.
In addition to farming, Kehula is a gifted tradesperson with a natural talent for building and carpentry. He is also handy as a mechanic and often spends his free time fixing motorcycles, repairing wiring, and tinkering with water pump machines. But as Kehula grows older, he can feel his body growing weary, and he knows his strength to perform labor-intensive farm duties will diminish. He wants to learn fish farming, which will be less strenuous for him.
Another desire of Kehula’s is for the opportunity to install an irrigation system on the farm one day, so the family no longer needs to walk to collect water for the crops. He feels blessed that his children are always willing to step in and help with the care of the family’s 18-acre farm. But he hopes that they will be able to live out their own dreams for the future—even if it means they will leave the farm behind. He beams with pride as he shares that one of his daughters is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in information technology and one of his sons has inherited his aptitude for mechanics.
Kehula finds strength and hope, believing that brighter days are ahead for his children. With determination and resilience, he looks forward to a future filled with possibility.
