Tornado activity continued throughout Memorial Day weekend with an additional 48 tornado touchdowns across 13 states. In response, World Renew has begun coordinating our volunteer efforts with local and state officials in Indiana, Iowa, Ohio, Kansas, and Oklahoma.

The World Renew team will commence initial clean-up efforts starting next week in Bristol, Nebraska and then Hamburg, Iowa in response to the Missouri River flood. We will also attend in-person coordination meetings in Fremont, Nebraska.

The storms have caused at least 175 reported injuries and confrimed 10 fatalities. The numbers are still growing.

The violent storms are wreaking havoc across the central states, including Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Missouri, and Nebraska. “We are seeing raging, flooded rivers sweep houses away, and homes and businesses are being pulled apart by tornadoes,” said Bob Laarman, director for World Renew Disaster Response Services (DRS). “These are not isolated events—this is happening in city after city across several states.”

Each city hit by these recent storms is in an emergency situation as they work to find survivors and make sure people are safe, fed, and have roofs over their heads.
