Members of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank will receive $2.5 million of this funding, of which World Renew will receive $556,963.
This announcement comes as a result of the Government of Canada’s Syria Emergency Relief Fund – which was set up in September 2015 as a way to encourage Canadians to donate towards humanitarian efforts within Syria and its neighboring countries.
World Renew will be able to continue assisting 2,000 people within Syria for the next five months.
By February 29, $31.8 million was given by Canadians to charitable organizations. World Renew’s supporters were among the most generous – donating $955,788 by the deadline. In the April 13 announcement, Minister Bibeau said that the Canadian government would go beyond the $31.8 million it has promised in matched funding to give an additional $68.2 million for humanitarian efforts.
As a result of these generous contributions, World Renew will be able to continue assisting 2,000 people within Syria for the next five months. This assistance will come in the form of monthly food baskets that contain vital food staples such as oil, rice and pulses.
“You are the candle that turned the darkness in my life into light,” Farah said, expressing her gratitude for the assistance her family receives through World Renew. She takes comfort in the fact that her family’s food needs are met. This small investment has helped her find hope even when her situation at times appears hopeless.
“World Renew is blessed to have been able to respond to the needs of Farah and other people in Syria and the surrounding countries for nearly four years,” said World Renew’s Senior Program Manager, Ken Little. “While the needs are overwhelming and it has been a challenge to find adequate funding, our God has always provided. This week, He provided once again through the gifts of World Renew’s supporters and this generous grant from the Canadian government.”
As a result of this support, World Renew’s project in Syria will continue until at least August 2016.
