How We Help

Food Assistance

Food is an essential part of life, and it is the largest component of our responses. By providing food, cash, and vouchers, we help families find nourishment and hope in the immediate aftermath of a disaster.

Shelter

Shelter provides security, safety, and protection from the elements. It also helps to prevent the spread of disease. With tarps, tents, and shelter kits, we provide shelter and protection to vulnerable families.

Health & Hygiene

Emergency water, hygiene kits, soap, and latrines improve health and sanitation conditions for displaced families. We provide these essential items to give dignity to survivors—and to prevent the spread of disease.

Our Approach to Global Disasters

More than 90 percent of disaster-related deaths occur in developing countries. Humanitarian emergencies result from many kinds of situations—from environmental disasters like drought or earthquakes to political conflicts that drive people from their homes.

In recent years, prolonged conflicts, economic shocks from the pandemic, and a global food crisis have placed families in increasingly precarious situations—making them even more vulnerable to poverty and hunger.

Every disaster impacts communities in different ways, which is why we offer different types of support to meet each community’s individual needs.

In the aftermath of a disaster, food, shelter, and hygiene items are essential. We connect participants with essential items to ease suffering, basic shelter and sanitation to prevent illness, and food assistance for nourishment.
We offer support to communities by helping them identify their most pressing needs and helping them gain access to the best ways to address those needs. Wherever possible, we locally source supplies to speed up response times and to give support to local economies.
Often for people with special needs, like the disabled and elderly, receiving support can be difficult—and in times of disaster, this becomes even harder. World Renew helps the most vulnerable gain access to the resources they need to survive.
Our goal is to help rebuild communities impacted by disasters to be stronger and healthier, and to better withstand future disasters. We keep local communities and networks at the center of our response plans, so that community members are empowered to participate in their long-term recovery.
When we work in partnerships, we come alongside communities to strengthen local capacity and local economies. This is why World Renew partners with local non-profit organizations, local churches, and within our international networks around the world to give quick, effective, and locally sourced assistance to survivors.

A Courageous Hope

In the wake of 2020’s Hurricanes Eta and Iota, Celia Padilla Baptiz’s community in Nicaragua, along with her farm and home, suffered great losses. The rising floodwaters were unforgiving, destroying crops and tainting drinking water. In the immediate aftermath, she said, “With the hurricanes, we lost all food, crops, everything, but worst of all, we don’t have water to drink. . . Due to the flood, there is a great need for drinking water.”

Yet, the spirit of locals like Celia remained unbroken, filled with a courageous hope to rebuild. Walking hand in hand with the community, World Renew and its local partners stepped in, first with immediate emergency aid, and then with long-term recovery initiatives. Your gifts are vital in bringing life-saving relief and supplies, as well as long-term support, for disaster survivors like Celia.
