HONDURAS – Years ago Daniel Bustillo became completely blind after being bitten by a venomous snake. Life in the mountain village of El Coyolar is not easy for him. The steep, rocky terrain presents a challenge for getting around and he is not able to farm in the way he did before losing his sight.

Life in the mountain village of El Coyolar is not easy for him. The steep, rocky terrain presents a challenge for getting around and he is not able to farm in the way he did before losing his sight.

Despite his challenges, Daniel has found new ways to earn income, especially since he is a member of the local “Caja Rural,” a small savings and loan association. World Renew and our local partners in Honduras help organize these savings and loan associations in villages across Honduras where banking services are otherwise unavailable or unattainable by people like Daniel.

As a member of the association, Daniel now has access to small loans and has used them to finance the raising and selling of pigs.

Now a pig farmer, Daniel has improved his life in El Coyolar.

Planning Workshop

The World Renew Honduras team recently met with all our partner organizations in Honduras. This workshop focused on planning programming to be implemented next year. All of the partners we work with will be using a new suite of project management tools that will greatly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our work in Honduras. We are excited about our plans and these new tools, and look forward to seeing more communities transformed in Honduras.

Pray for Honduras

  • The Honduras team is busy presenting proposals for programming in the communities where we work. One proposal responds to high youth pregnancy rates by focusing on voluntary family planning with an emphasis on faith-based organizations. Another addresses November’s post-election conflicts by proposing work in mitigation and reconciliation in the areas of the country most affected by the crisis. Please pray that these proposals are approved.
  • We are making connections with other development organizations that work in the same regions as World Renew in order to collaborate for greater impact. Please pray that the relationships established will be fruitful for these communities.

Blessings,
