The Miracle of Good Health

The Miracle of Good Health

When Sanita, a young mother in Kenya, was pregnant with her first child, she didn’t know much about how to care for herself or her unborn child. Thankfully, her pregnancy continued, and the baby grew active. But then, when she was eight months along, something frightening happened.

Sanita noticed her baby was going long periods without kicking. She was worried but didn’t know what to do.

She’s not alone. In many vulnerable, rural communities, mothers often don’t have access to healthcare, support, or even proper nutrition. And that’s driving up infant and mother mortality rates.

According to the World Health Organization, each year more than 300,000 women die due to complications from pregnancy and childbirth, and 2.5 million babies die during the first month of life.

That’s why World Renew offers Maternal and Child Health (MCH) programs for pregnant women, mothers, and children where they can receive advice on medical care, nutrition, and more. We also equip local community health volunteers (CHVs) with the tools, support, and knowledge they need to care for pregnant women and improve their health.

Thankfully, just when Sanita was fearing the worst, a community health volunteer trained by World Renew, helped Sanita to get the support and care she needed. A month later Sanita delivered a healthy baby! When Sanita became pregnant with her next child, she remembered the volunteer had told her about prenatal care and training, so Sanita signed up right away.

“When I got pregnant with my second child, I started attending the teachings,” Sanita says. “I went to the clinic the first month, some tests were done, and my health started improving. I was told the right food to eat for me and for my children.”

Now Sanita is pregnant with her fourth child and she and her other children are healthy and thriving! For Sanita, the help she has received is miraculous.

Moms like Sanita and their children simply don’t have access to any other care. That’s why your gifts to our health programs mean so much.

$82 will train and equip a community health volunteer who will deliver hope and life-saving help to mothers and children. Please give today.
