On May 9, this hit particularly close to home for World Renew. With the increased water levels from the heavy rains, a dam burst in Solai, a region of Kenya where World Renew has been working with farmers on conservation agriculture. Prior to these floods, farmers in this community were experiencing the transformative impact of conservation agriculture. Crop yields were increasing many times over.
However, for hundreds in this region, the flooding has begun to put many of these gains in jeopardy. There are significant concerns of cholera outbreak in several counties throughout Kenya, and the flooding has extended beyond Kenya into parts of Ethiopia and Tanzania.
In a time of crisis, it is important that communities have the essentials so that they can begin the journey to recovery. Our local team is busy reaching out to vulnerable communities, in several counties across Kenya.
We have already provided water tanks, hygiene kits and water purifiers so that communities can gather and protect their clean drinking water and stay healthy. This week, we are providing mosquito nets, water filters and women’s hygiene items.
In the coming days and weeks, we will work closely with local communities to determine what the most significant needs are. Our priority is helping the most vulnerable members of communities affected by this flooding.
As we respond to this crisis, your financial support is needed. To donate, please follow the link at the top of this page, and select “International Rapid Response Fund”.
Your gifts today will help our team to provide clean drinking water, water filters, hygiene kits, and other urgently needed supplies.
And please pray for the people of Kenya in this incredibly difficult time. Pray for floodwaters to recede, for families who have lost loved ones to be comforted, and pray for wisdom for our local team as they assist the most vulnerable families.
