The need for emergency food assistance has reached unprecedented levels this year; millions are at risk of starvation. Severe drought is being compounded by conflict to worsen an already severe crisis and famine is threatening communities in Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan, and Yemen.  Your prayers and generous donations for World Renew’s food assistance program are more critical than ever.

Joyce Aduo is a woman of incredible strength. Several months ago her husband walked out, leaving her to raise nine children by herself, using the little income she makes as a small-scale farmer. To make matters worse, drought devastated most of her harvests last year. With little food at home, no food growing in their fields and no money to buy food, this family has few options.

Joyce explained that sometimes a neighbor will share from the little they have to make sure her family can eat. Yet days often pass when they have no food. Despite this unimaginably difficult situation, Joyce remains hopeful. “In spite of all our difficulties,” she shared, “we know God will always help us through.”

Joyce’s community is in Uganda where significant levels of hunger are being caused by successive crop failures from drought, but famine will hopefully be avoided.

…in partnership with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, over 74,500 people are currently receiving food assistance…

World Renew is not only responding in places like South Sudan and Nigeria where famine has been declared, but also in communities before the situation becomes severe enough for famine to be declared. In Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, and Nigeria, World Renew is responding early enough to prevent more serious harm to families, especially the elderly and the young. In these communities hunger needs are immense, yet it often slips under the radar of international media. Nonetheless, the needs are very real and without these crucial projects, many more would be at risk of starvation. Through the work of World Renew, in partnership with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB), over 74,500 people are currently receiving food assistance within the African continent alone.

World Renew is appealing for funds today to help provide assistance in communities before it is too late. Donations for drought and famine response from U.S. residents support these projects. Gifts from Canadian residents are eligible to receive a generous 4:1 match in funding from the Canadian government. All donations will go towards World Renew’s response to famine and drought.

Thank you for giving hope and help to God’s children in need!
